YAO was organized in early 1999 to introduce the young adults at our church to each other. Everyone was too shy or too busy to walk right up to one another, so Forrest Gilmore, intern minister at the time, invited us all to a dessert potluck. Thank goodness for his sweet tooth!

From this meeting we formed the YAO Steering Committee, which meets the 2nd Sunday of each month to plan fundraisers, discussions, potlucks, and lots of "fun stuff" focused on the interests of UU's in the 20ish to 40ish age range. All ages are welcome at YAO events though. We have over 100 YAOies on our list now and we just keep growing!

Our Purpose

• To foster lasting friendships among young adults through shared experiences.
• To encourage young adult involvement and leadership in First UU Church of San Diego and the larger community.
• To nurture and support each other as we journey along our intertwined spiritual paths.
